Cyberpower Infinity Achilles Pro GT gaming desktop PC review

The Infinity Achilles Pro GT is a complete gaming system, including a powerful PC, dedicated gaming peripherals and a responsive 24in monitor.

NZXT’s new and already very popular Source 340 system case lends the PC a bold, minimalist look with a transparent side panel and a front panel which eschews optical drives entirely, leaving it completely blank.

Inside there’s 8GB of 1866MHz DDR3 memory a 1 TB hard drive and a 120 GB SSD to increase responsiveness, speed up boot times and accelerate game loading. These are adequate, yet basic specs for a £999 PC, but Cyberpower has saved a chunk of the budget for else elsewhere as we will discover shortly.

Like most gaming PCs in this price range, it features a speedy Intel quad-core Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz processor. However, like its mythical namesake, the Infinity Achilles Pro GT also comes with a very specific weak spot: the processor hasn’t been overclocked. Also see:  Best gaming laptops 2015.

Our benchmark results therefore show no benefit from the use of the overclockable “K” version of the Core-i5, which costs slightly more than the standard version as seen in Scan’s 3XS Gamer PC. Consequently, the Cyberpower Infinity Achilles Pro GT has turned in the slowest overall benchmark results of any of the six mid-price gaming PCs we’ve tested this month.

Motherboards based on the Intel H81 Express chipset, such as the Gigabyte H81M-S2H model chosen by Cyberpower, don’t list overclocking among their features, but many of them do support the feature in a semi-official way. This means there’s a good chance you’ll be able to overclock this PC yourself if you wish, although we would always advise buying a pre-overclocked system instead which would be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.

While Cyberpower’s PC lags behind significantly in most benchmarks, it does have a secret weapon in the form of a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 graphics card. This is the component Cyberpower has been saving the budget for and that step up from the GTX 960 brings with it a major performance boost for gaming. The difference is enough to enable the use of “ultra” quality settings where most of the competition would have to settle for mere “high” quality. So, while the Infinity Achilles Pro GT is disappointingly slow when running applications, it’s actually by far the fastest gaming PC of our whole group test.

The PC is supplied with a 24inch AOC monitor, with a fast 5ms response time and the illuminated gaming keyboard and mouse combo from Cooler Master completes the system.
