Wearable brand Amazfit is expanding its rugged smartwatch line with the T-Rex Ultra, the most premium model in the series so far.
This newest member of the T-Rex line is specifically designed to both withstand and accurately track strenuous outdoor activities and adventures. This even includes skydiving and indoor/outdoor freediving – three new sports added specifically for this wearable.
The Amazfit T-Rex Ultra is priced from £399/€469 and is available now from Amazfit and Amazon. This is nearly half the price of the Apple Watch Ultra, and just slightly more expensive than the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar.
Coming in a choice of two colours – Abyss Black and Sahara – this military-grade watch is made from 316L stainless steel and has an AMOLED display, as well as a mud-resistant bridge and buttons. It is also built to withstand temperatures as cold as -30℃, so it could be a good pick for mountaineers and cold-weather sports enthusiasts if that claim holds true.
Though it has a rugged design, Amazfit says the smartwatch should be comfortable to wear due to its adjustable lugs (the parts which connect the watch strap to the case). A snug fit is essential, considering that this wearable can last up to a whopping 20 days under ‘typical usage’ – whatever typical use skydiving fits into, I guess.
The T-Rex Ultra includes a new Endurance GPS mode, specifically based for providing GPS-tracked hiking/climbing. This brings the battery life down to 80 hours (about three and a half days). However, to conserve juice users can also opt for the Automatic GPS mode, which will alternate between settings based on the strength of the satellite signal.

The smartwatch has GPS tracking that should be able to precisely log routes taken in high-altitude and dense areas such as mountains and forests. You’ll also have the option to pair imported route files with downloadable offline maps.
Amazfit always includes tracking abilities for a wide range of sports on its wearables, and the T-Rex Ultra is no exception. It comes with over 160 built-in sports modes, all of which will be logged in the accompanying Zepp app.
This software now includes the Zepp Coach feature, which comes with “tailored workout plans and scientific guidance”, according to Amazfit.
While I don’t know what this really means without testing the T-Rex Ultra, it is a welcome addition – the Zepp app has previously fallen short of rivals due to its lack of information from accredited sources when it comes to the tracking logs.
